On the food tour, we passed by a huge building that used to be a slaughterhouse.

The neighborhood in Rome that our food tour was in used to be an industrial neighborhood, so it was a fitting place for a slaughterhouse.

The slaughterhouse building was the size of 17 football fields, and at one point was the biggest slaughterhouse in Europe. The were five thousand people who worked in the slaughterhouse. The workers were only men.

It was opened in the 1880s, and it closed in 1975.
