After visiting the opera house, we walked across the square to the Royal Palace.
Nowadays the Palace is not the residence of the King and Queen of Spain, but is still used for royal and state events. The King and Queen of Spain now live in the outskirts of Madrid.
As much as I enjoyed the opera house, the interior of the Palace cannot be beat.
All of the rooms are gorgeous, my favorite was the banquet room. You never need to worry about hosting too many people because the table seats 50! I am not sure you can really have a conversation at such a big table, but I’m sure the food is delicious so talking is not that important.
It was really cool to see the dishes used in the Palace. These dishes were in the silverware and porcelain/glass rooms. In the silverware room and the porcelain/glass room, there were some dishes that looked like Jewish ritual objects. There were cups that looked like Kiddush cups and an object that could be either an etrog holder or a bisamim holder. Also, there was a silver platter that must have been 2 feet by 3 feet! I can’t even imagine how heavy that platter must be.
