Yesterday, after going to the Vatican museum and the Sistind Chapel, we went to the famous St. Peter’s Basilica.
The basilica is immensely magnificent and just ginormous! We read about it on Rick Steve’s app and he said that the basilica is 6 acres. It is the biggest one in the world! Except maybe some church somewhere in Africa.
In the basilica, the ceilings were gorgeous. I have really liked the ceilings of churches and museums.
When we were about to leave we saw somewhere where you could pay, 8 euros but foot and 10 by elevator, to go up to a view point in the dome. The view point was surrounded by mosaics on the wall. With the light streaming through the windows, the mosaics were golden and beautiful.
Then, we saw people going up higher so we followed them. After climbing a billion stairs, we finally got to an outside observation deck. The view was insane!!!
We definitely got a workout climbing up there. It is 551 steps to the top outside observation deck from the ground, but you can save 320 with the elevator. Obviously, I recommend taking the elevator. ;)
