Yesterday, as our last full day in Israel with Cary and Jeron, we had a guide show us around Ramallah.

We started off by seeing the market (the central part of the city). Then, we got to try fresh Khubz bread (it is a Palestinian bread like laffa). The bread was delicious, and would be improved with garlic.

In the afternoon, after lunch and kanafeh, we went to two different museums. The first museum was in a 200 year old house. On display were some old photographs which showed what clothes were worn, how they lived, etc. The second museum was about Yasser Arafat.

To end the day, we quickly went to Nativity Church in Bethlehem. The current Nativity Church was built in 552 CE. There had been a previous Nativity Church built in 325 CE, but it got destroyed. In the church, we saw a mosaic floor from the previous church. In the mosaic there were swastikas and older forms of crosses. Swatstikas are an old Christian symbol.

As we drove to and from places, you could see a clear difference in roads. The roads in area B and C were not as nice as those in area A. Area A,B, and C are areas of different control between Israelis and Palestinians in the West Bank. Also, there were times were cars were driving opposite the flow of traffic.

We had a great guide, who had a really interesting background. I learned a lot and got to hear a perspective that I am not normally exposed to.

The painting is a visual play on the Israeli Palestinian map
