This past Monday was my fourteenth birthday. Being in another country is always a plus, and it definitely made for a good birthday.
In the morning, I got to sleep in. It is very important to start your day late (the more sleep the better). Then we had a nice breakfast and I had the most delicious ice latte ever!!! (We even went back yesterday for the coffee).
In the afternoon, we went on a tour of the parliament building. It is a ginormous building with amazing architecture.
During the day we also briefly went to Margaret Island (a tiny island in the middle of the Danube) and saw the ‘Shoes on the Danube’ memorial for Jews who were shot into the river by the Hungarian Iron Cross. There are about 60-70 pairs of shoes made out of metal to represent the thousands who were killed.
Then, for dinner, we went to an Italian place. The restaurant was really good; you can never really go wrong with Italian food. Although the food was delicious, Italian food in Italy tastes a thousand times better.
Overall, it was a really great birthday, and I am sad that next year I will not have the luxury of traveling to a new country for my birthday.
