Today we saw lots of Michelangelo’s work.

Since we were in Florence, we had to see David. We saw David and other art pieces Michelangelo did that were in the same museum, the Accademia.

When my mom had told me we were going to see David- A HUGE naked man, I was horrified! Why would I want to see a giant naked statue? However, I am very glad we went. David didn’t seem gross, it is really was just fantastic handiwork, great proportions, and so human like.

Besides David, I enjoyed Michelangelo’s Prisoners. There are four prisoners- Awakening Prisoner, Young Prisoner, Bearded Prisoner, and the Atlas Prisoner. These unfinished figures seem to be fighting the stone to free themselves.

The Atlas Prisoner- one of Michelangelo’s ‘Prisoners’

This figure is carrying the heavy load of marble on his stooped shoulders and his head is encased within the block.

Awakening Prisoner-another famous prisoner.

This figure, the least finished of the prisoners, is more block than statue. He seems to have just awakened from his nap.
