On Saturday, our first full day in Rome, we spent the day walking around and taking in the sights. We slept in and had a lazy morning before enjoying a lunch of fresh cheese on bread and some yummy pastries. Then, we set out to explore Rome.
First, we hit the Pantheon, piazzo nevona, and compo di fiori before coming back to our apartment for a little rest time.
I really loved the pantheon! It such an old building that was built beautifully. It has the huge hole in the domed ceiling that lets in light since when it was built this was one of the few ways to have light. The marble on the floor is stunning and the pillars are amazing.
Then, when Shabbat ended, we went out to dinner. After dinner, we went searching for a gelato place that our Grandfather likes from previous Rome trips. To much disappointment, his favorite gelato place was never found so we continued our journey and made our way to the Trevi fountain and Spanish steps. For those of you who are curious, after climbing the Spanish steps, I can tell you there are 135 steps.
The Trevi fountain was really something. It is such intricate handiwork and the statues are incredible. Also, we saw someone propose! What a great place to propose.
While walking home for the night, at 11:30 pm, we stopped for some must needed gelato because of course no true Borodin can come to Italy and not eat at least one daily gelato.
While exploring Rome by foot, we not only took in the views, but also got more than our fair share of exercise. We walked so much that we had about 29,000 steps!!!
