Even though we have now been in Israel for about eight months, I have explored my neighborhood more in the last month and half because of coronavirus than in the first 6 and a half months of being in Israel. One of the rules we had for a long time was that we were not allowed to be more than 100 meters (330 feet) from our house/apartment. The only exceptions were the grocery store and pharmacy.
People interpreted 100 meters very differently. 100 meters is really not that far (less than walking around the block). Many people just walk as far as they can get away with because they need to be able walk farther than 100 meters in this unpredictable and insane time.
Recently we went on a walk around our neighborhood where Ima showed us ancient Roman aqueducts, a tree house, awesome playgrounds, some big grassy fields, and a few really nice buildings. The ancient Roman aqueducts were really cool and in the same area was a super cool playground and nice grassy areas to sit. One thing that is really nice about many playgrounds in Israel is they all have sun shades. There have been new playgrounds built that Naomi and I would even play on if we could. We saw a building that was almost done being built that is going to become a community center. This building was beautiful! It was modern, which I love, but I was surprised to see it because Jerusalem doesn’t have so many modern looking buildings.
