Last Thursday, we went to Ein Kerem with our family friend, Laurie.
We walked on a nice path for around 30-45 minutes, and we saw very few people.
We saw lots of varieties of trees including, grape, olive, sabra (cactus), fig, and wild berries. The grapes we saw were tiny, and it was hard to believe they were grapes.
Did you know that Israelis born in Israel (not ones who made Aliya), are called sabras? Someone told us that this is because like sabra fruit, Israelis are prickly on the outside but sweet on the inside.
It has been quite enjoyable to start actually doing things in Israel again, and to not just on zoom all day long. You get an extremely different experience in person vs. on zoom.
Although I do not normally enjoy walks or hikes, especially in the heat, I actually liked the walk we did in Ein Kerem. A small part of the trail was surrounded by gorgeous yellow flowers on both sides and it was beautiful.
Before we went on the hike/walk, we saw a well named Mary’s spring in English and Miriam’s spring in Hebrew. I had no idea that Mary in Hebrew was Miriam!
Right outside the spring was a sign telling people that swimming in the spring was forbidden. I thought that this was hilarious because it would be physically impossible to swim in spring even if you were the size of a newborn baby.
I’m so glad that we are able to do activities again!
