Near the end of our food tour, we went to a coffee shop called Power Coffeehouse.

Power coffeehouse was established by South African imagrints. The owners are a couple, Brandon and Stephanie. They had the Zionist’s dream and dreamt to open a coffee shop for Israelis. One of the owners is sommelier, which means he can taste small differences between different types of coffeee and he can tell by tasting how the beans are roasted. He knows everything there is to know about coffee.

The beans that are used in this coffee shop are from places in Africa like Kenya and South Africa, and from places in South America like Colombia and Brazil.

This summer, the coffeehouse was robbed, but the community came together and paid for many of the stolen machines. This shows how much this coffeehouse is a part of community.

Power Coffeehouse feels very homey and welcoming and has a big sense of community. As soon as you walk in the door, you are hit with an amazing smell of rich coffee.

I ordered a hot chocolate. It was delicious, and it tasted like melted dark chocolate with a hint of milk.

The fact that this place was started by immigrants/ עולים, shows a lot about Israel. In Israel, food is a big part of culture and religion. America is like a mixing pot, you go there to conform. But, Israel is like a mosiac and this coffee shop is like a tile in that. You come to Israel to be apart of something rich and diverse. People in Israel come from the 4 corners of the earth, and they all share their backgrounds to create a diverse community.

This coffee house felt like Seattle because it is coffee and because it is not a chain
