This year we have been taking an art class that we heard about from a girl in Naomi’s class. In the class there are a total of nine girls and all but one of the girls are in eighth grade. The other girl is in ninth grade and goes to our school. The girls go to lots of different schools.
The class takes place in the teacher’s apartment, in her art studio. We walk to class every week and walk home with a bunch of girls. Thankfully our teacher lives really close and lot of girls live near by too, including someone who lives across the street.
Over the course of the year, we have drawn, used oil pastels, painted with gouache and watercolor, and used plaster. We even put plaster on our faces to make a mold. My favorite projects have been making a plaster mold of our faces, painting plaster molds, and drawing toilet paper. I know drawing toilet paper sounds super weird, but it was really fun.
At the start of the rules that you could not gather indoors even with groups of ten, our teacher delivered art supplies to everyone and we have been doing our classes on zoom for almost two months. We have drawn lots of items around the house and even our own faces.
Our class is two hours long every Wednesday from 5:30-7:30. Two hours in a long time to do art without a break, unless you count all the talking, but I am really enjoying working on my art. All the girls know at least some english and our conversations are usually half hebrew and half english.
Ideas for you to do at home: Drawing/painting a still life. Set up some random objects on a surface, get out a pencil or some paints, and get to work. Go outside and draw nature. If you feel like challenging yourself, try drawing without an eraser. Always start with light lines because you can always make them darker.

My toilet paper still life. The only supplies needed are toilet paper, a pencil, and an eraser.

Drawing everyday items with oil pastels and a pencil. See above for my inspiration.

This is a work in progress of the last project we started. everyone had to send a picture with them wearing a mask (you did not have to wear the mask normally) and then we we had half an hour for every two photos. We did not get to all the photos so I will still add to my paper.

P.S. I don’t have many pictures of my art because we keep our projects in the teacher’s studio., but I will upload photos at the end of the year.
